Two design students, Ana and Ben, discuss feedback on a prototype app that helps students book study rooms (giả định)

Ana
So, we've had the results from user testing. Twelve students tried the prototype.
Ben
And the main complaint was that the booking process took too long – four screens just to reserve a room.
Ana
Right. I'd like to cut it to two. The map of the library was popular, though.
Ben
It was, although several people said the colours were hard to tell apart. We should test a version with labels as well as colours.
Ana
Good idea. What about notifications? I thought people would like reminders.
Ben
Actually, most of them found them annoying – they got three messages for one booking. One reminder an hour before should be enough.
Ana
Fair enough. Now, for the report, our tutor wants us to explain what we'd change if we had more time.
Ben
I'd focus on accessibility – making it work properly with screen readers. That's something we didn't test at all.
Ana
Agreed, though I'd also mention linking it to the university calendar. Several people asked for that.
Ben
Let's include both, but put accessibility first, since it affects whether some students can use it at all.
Ana
OK. And the presentation's on the 12th, so we should have a new prototype ready by the 8th to test again.
Ben
The 8th is tight. Let's say the 9th, and I'll book the testing room.

A lecturer talks about why some innovations fail (giả định)

Lecturer
We tend to remember successful innovations, but most new products never become widely used. Today I'll look at three common reasons why.
Lecturer
The first is that the product solves a problem people don't really have. Engineers may be excited by what a technology can do, but if customers don't feel a genuine need, they won't change their habits. This is why market research – actually talking to potential users – is so important at an early stage.
Lecturer
The second reason is cost, and I don't only mean price. Switching to something new often involves learning time, extra equipment or the risk of things going wrong. In a hypothetical hospital, for example, a new digital record system was technically better than paper, but staff resisted it because training took so long during an already busy period.
Lecturer
The third reason is timing. An idea may simply arrive too early, before the supporting infrastructure exists. A device that relies on fast internet will struggle in a market where connections are slow.
Lecturer
So what do successful innovators do differently? They test early and often, building simple prototypes and getting feedback before spending large amounts of money. They also tend to focus first on a small group of early adopters – people who are enthusiastic about new ideas – and then use their experience to improve the product before a wider launch.
Lecturer
Finally, they accept that failure is part of the process. Many products that eventually succeeded went through several unsuccessful versions. The key is to fail cheaply, learn quickly, and iterate.
