Buổi 44: Speaking – Du lịch, lễ hội & một phong tục bạn muốn người nước ngoài hiểu

🎯 Sau buổi này bạn có thể

🔁 1. Ôn tập – 10 phút

🔁 Ôn thẻ từ vựng đến hạn

🧠 Nhớ lại buổi trước (không xem tài liệu)

  1. Nói 1 câu đảo ngữ “Only after… will…” về một lễ hội.
  3. Khác nhau giữa “custom” và “habit”?

Trả lời to hoặc viết ra giấy, rồi mới mở lại buổi trước để kiểm tra.

🗣️ 2. Đầu vào – 20 phút

Q: Do you prefer travelling alone or with other people? With a small group, on the whole. Travelling alone sounds freeing, but in my experience the best moments are the ones you can talk about afterwards – like getting completely lost and ending up in a market you’d never have found on purpose. That said, a group bigger than four starts to feel like a school trip.

Q: What’s the most important festival in your country? Without a doubt, Lunar New Year. It’s less a single day than a whole season – people start cleaning and shopping weeks in advance, and the cities empty out as everyone heads back to their hometown. For a lot of people, it’s the one time of year the whole family is guaranteed to be in the same place.

  1. In my experience, the best moments are the ones you can talk about afterwards.

  2. That said, a group bigger than four starts to feel like a school trip.

  3. It's less a single day than a whole season.

Nó không hẳn là một ngày mà là cả một mùa.

  4. It's the one time of year the whole family is guaranteed to be together.

Describe a custom or tradition in your country that you would like people from other countries to understand.

You should say:

  • what the custom is
  • when and how people follow it
  • why it is important to people
  • and explain why you would like foreigners to understand it.

  • So sánh để người ngoài dễ hình dung: It's a bit like… in Western countries, except that…

Bài mẫu do khóa học viết; mô tả ở mức phổ thông, mỗi gia đình có thể làm khác.

The custom I’d like to talk about is the family altar that many Vietnamese homes keep, and the way people use it to remember their ancestors.

In a lot of households, there’s a small altar in the main room or on an upper floor, with photos of grandparents or great-grandparents, some incense, fruit and flowers. On certain days – the first and fifteenth of the lunar month, on the anniversary of a relative’s death, and especially at Lunar New Year – families light incense and offer food, and on the bigger occasions relatives come together for a meal afterwards.

What matters most, though, isn’t the ritual itself but what it represents. For many people, it’s a way of saying that the people who came before you are still part of the family. The death anniversary, in particular, is less about sadness than about gathering – it’s often the occasion that brings cousins together who might not otherwise see each other for months. In that sense, it’s a bit like a family reunion in Western countries, except that it’s organised around someone you’ve lost.

The reason I’d like foreigners to understand it is that it’s quite easy to misread. Some visitors see the offerings and assume it’s mainly religious, or even superstitious. In reality, plenty of people who aren’t especially religious still keep an altar, because for them it’s about gratitude and continuity rather than belief.

So if a foreign colleague were ever invited to one of these meals, I’d just want them to know that it’s a warm, quite sociable occasion – and that showing a bit of respect at the altar would be very much appreciated.

🔬 Phân tích bài mẫu
  • Tỷ lệ đúng: phần “làm gì” chỉ 1 đoạn; phần ý nghĩa + hiểu nhầm chiếm hơn một nửa.
  • Cụm chuyển trọng tâm: What matters most, though, isn’t… but…; is less about… than about…
  • So sánh văn hóa có điều chỉnh: a bit like… except that…
  • Không khái quát quá đà: many homes, for many people, plenty of people – thay vì all Vietnamese.

⚠️ Lỗi hay gặp ở band 6.5: kể từng bước nghi lễ rất dài rồi hết giờ; dùng all Vietnamese people; không có so sánh hoặc hiểu nhầm.

Part 3 – toàn cầu hóa & bản sắc văn hóa

🎤 Part 3 – Culture and globalisation (khoảng 8 phút)

Nghe câu hỏi → nghĩ 10–15 giây → ghi âm câu trả lời 2–3 câu (khoảng 20–30 giây) → nghe lại và tự chấm bằng ô kiểm tra bên dưới.

  • Phân biệt bề ngoài và cốt lõi: The form may be changing, but the underlying values…
  • Ví dụ hai chiều: tourism can revive crafts, but it can also turn rituals into performances.
  1. Are traditional festivals becoming less important to young people?

  2. Is tourism good or bad for local traditions?

  3. Should governments spend money on preserving traditional culture?

  4. Is it possible to belong to more than one culture?

  1. Just so you know, it's common here to bring a small gift when you visit someone's home.

Để anh/chị biết, ở đây khi đến nhà ai đó người ta hay mang một món quà nhỏ.

  2. It doesn't need to be expensive – a box of fruit or some tea is perfect.

  3. It's less about the gift itself than about showing respect.

  4. Back home it might be a bit different, so feel free to ask me if anything seems unusual.

Ở nước anh/chị có thể khác, nên cứ hỏi tôi nếu thấy điều gì lạ.
