The bar chart compares the proportion of households in Country T that had access to five items in 2006 and 2026.
Overall, access to every item increased considerably over the twenty-year period. Mobile phones were the most widely owned item in both years and had become almost universal by 2026, while internet access showed the most dramatic growth. Cars, by contrast, remained the least common item.
In 2006, 45% of households had a mobile phone, but only 15% had internet access. By 2026, mobile phone ownership had more than doubled to 98%, and the proportion of households with internet access had risen almost sixfold to 88%, making it the second most widespread item.
The other three items also became more common, although none reached the same level. Ownership of washing machines rose from 30% to 72%, and air conditioners became more than four times as common, increasing from 12% to 55%. Car ownership grew the least in absolute terms, from 8% to 22%, so that fewer than a quarter of households had a car by the end of the period.

I'm so glad you've finally booked your trip – it'll be great to show you around!
Since you're only here for four days, I'd focus on a few places rather than trying to see everything. The old quarter is a must: the narrow streets are full of tiny cafés and workshops, and it's best explored on foot early in the morning before it gets too hot. I'd also recommend the history museum by the river, which is small but gives a really good introduction to the city. And if you like food, the night market near the bus station is fantastic – just bring cash.
As for getting around, traffic can be pretty overwhelming at first, so I wouldn't try renting a motorbike. Ride-hailing apps are cheap and easy to use, and most drivers will have the address on their phone, so you don't need to speak Vietnamese.
I'm working during the day on Thursday and Friday, but I could pick you up from the airport on Wednesday evening and take you to my favourite street-food place. At the weekend, I'm completely free.
