The pie chart illustrates where adults in Country Y got most of their news in 2025, while the bar chart compares the average amount of time that four age groups spent following the news each week.
Overall, social media was the most common main source of news, and older people spent considerably more time following the news than younger people.
According to the pie chart, 40% of adults relied mainly on social media for news, which was far more than any other source. TV was the second most popular source, at 25%, followed by news websites and apps, at 20%. Only 10% of people mainly listened to the radio, and printed newspapers were the least common source, at just 5%.
The bar chart shows a clear pattern: the older the age group, the more time they spent on news. People aged 18 to 29 spent an average of 3 hours a week following the news, compared with 5 hours for those aged 30 to 49 and 7 hours for the 50 to 64 group. The figure for people aged 65 and over was the highest, at 9 hours.

I am writing in response to your article, published last Thursday, about the council's plan to close the town library and replace it with a car park. In my view, this would be a serious mistake.
The library is much more than a place to borrow books. Every week, it runs free reading sessions for young children, and many older residents go there to read newspapers, use the computers and meet friends. For students who do not have a quiet place at home, it is the only place where they can study in peace. My own children have learnt to love reading there.
I understand that parking in the town centre is a problem. However, I believe there are better solutions. For example, the council could build a multi-storey car park on the empty land behind the bus station, or improve bus services so that fewer people need to drive.
I hope the council will listen to residents and keep our library open for future generations.
