The maps illustrate how the coastal area of Palm Bay changed between 2000 and 2025.
Overall, the area was transformed from a quiet fishing village surrounded by nature into a tourist resort. While the beach remained unchanged, almost all of the natural features and the original village disappeared.
In the western part of the area, the palm trees were replaced by a large hotel with a swimming pool next to it. To the east of the hotel, the fishing village was converted into a group of restaurants and shops, presumably to serve visitors.
In the east, the forest that had existed in 2000 was cleared to make way for a car park. The narrow track that ran in front of the village was replaced by a main road, which was extended westwards along the whole length of the beach. The most noticeable addition on the coast was a pier, which was built in the middle of the beach and extends out into the sea.

I am writing to complain about the four-night holiday package to Palm Bay that I booked with your company for my family from 10 to 14 August.
According to your website, the hotel was 'just two minutes from a quiet beach' and all rooms had a sea view. However, when we arrived, we discovered that the hotel was next to a busy main road and that our room looked directly onto the car park. The traffic noise made it very difficult for our children to sleep.
In addition, the package was advertised as including a boat trip to the nearby islands. On the second day, we were told that the trip had been cancelled because there were not enough passengers, and we were not offered an alternative.
I feel that the description on your website was misleading. As a result, our holiday was far less relaxing than we had expected. I would therefore like to request a partial refund of 30% of the total price, as well as a refund for the boat trip.

Friendly staff, noisy location
The staff were extremely helpful – they arranged a taxi for us at 5 a.m. and the breakfast was excellent, with lots of local dishes. However, our room faced the main road, and the traffic noise continued late into the night. The pool was also smaller than in the photos. Good value for a short stay, but light sleepers should ask for a room at the back.
