Q: Do you often ride a bicycle? A: Not as much as I used to. When I was at school, I cycled everywhere, but now I mainly ride a motorbike because my office is quite far away. That said, I sometimes cycle around the lake on Sunday mornings – it’s a great way to relax.
Q: Is public transport good where you live? A: It’s getting better. A few years ago, buses were the only option, and they were often crowded and unreliable. Now we have a metro line, which is much faster during rush hour. Having said that, it doesn’t go everywhere yet, so most people still rely on motorbikes.

I’d like to talk about a journey I made from Hanoi to Hue by overnight train a few years ago, with two of my old university friends.
We could have flown, which would have taken just over an hour, but we decided to take the train because we wanted the experience. The journey took about thirteen hours, leaving Hanoi in the evening and arriving in Hue the next morning.
We had a small cabin with four beds, which we shared with an elderly man who was going to visit his daughter. At first, I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to sleep because of the noise and the movement, but actually the rhythm of the train was quite relaxing. Before going to bed, we played cards and chatted with the man, who told us stories about the city when he was young.
The best part was waking up early in the morning. The train was running along the coast, and I could see the sea on one side and green rice fields on the other as the sun came up. Whenever the train stopped at a station, we got out to stretch our legs and buy hot coffee from the vendors on the platform.
Overall, I felt that the journey was part of the holiday, not just a way to get there. It was slower and less comfortable than flying, but I’d definitely do it again.
