The pie charts compare the ways in which adults of three age groups in Country P divide their leisure time between four types of activity.
Overall, screen-based activities took up the largest share of free time among adults under 55, whereas the oldest group spent the most time on hobbies. In general, the proportion of time spent on screens and socialising decreased with age, while hobbies became much more important.
Screen-based activities accounted for 45% of the leisure time of 18–34-year-olds, falling to 40% among those aged 35–54 and 30% among the over-55s. Socialising followed a similar pattern, dropping from a quarter of young adults' free time to a fifth in both older groups.
By contrast, the share of time spent on hobbies rose sharply with age. It made up only 10% of the youngest group's leisure time, but 25% for the middle group and 35% for those over 55, the largest category for this group. Sport and exercise, meanwhile, remained relatively minor, at 20% for young adults and 15% for both older groups.
