- Good afternoon, Seaview Apartments. How can I help?
- Man
- Hi, I'd like to book an apartment for my family in January.
- Agent
- Certainly. How many people?
- Man
- Two adults and two children – oh, and my mother may come too. Yes, let's say five.
- Agent
- Then you'll need our two-bedroom apartment. Which dates?
- Man
- From the eighth to the twelfth – four nights.
- Agent
- That's available. The usual price is ninety dollars a night, but in January it's seventy-five. There's also a one-off cleaning fee of thirty dollars.
- Man
- Fine. Is parking included?
- Agent
- Yes, there's a free space underground. Could I take your name?
- Man
- Gregory Lyall. That's L-Y-A-double L.
- Agent
- Thank you. And will you need a cot for a baby?
- Man
- No, the children are seven and ten. But could we have a high floor? My kids love the view.
- Agent
- I'll put you on the ninth floor.

- Guide
- Welcome to Parkside Sports Centre, which opened just three months ago. It replaced the old swimming pool, which had been closed for safety reasons.
- Guide
- Most people assume the pool is the most popular facility, and it is busy, but in fact the climbing wall attracts the largest number of visitors, especially teenagers.
- Guide
- The gym is on the first floor. Members can use it at any time, but beginners must book an introduction session with a trainer first.
- Guide
- For families, we run swimming lessons on Saturday mornings. They were originally planned for Sundays, but most parents said Saturdays suited them better.
- Guide
- Membership costs twenty-five dollars a month, and there's a discount for students and people over sixty-five. Unfortunately, we don't offer family membership yet, but it's planned for next year.
- Guide
- Finally, please note that the café is on the ground floor next to the entrance, and that's the only place where food is allowed.

Two business students, Lan and Ben, are discussing a case study

- Ben
- So, our case study is the small bakery that started selling online. Where should we start?
- Lan
- With the problem, I think. Their shop sales were falling because a supermarket opened nearby.
- Ben
- Right. And their first idea was to cut prices, wasn't it?
- Lan
- Yes, but that didn't work – they just lost money. What really helped was the online ordering for birthday cakes.
- Ben
- I was surprised that most of their online customers were businesses, not families – ordering cakes for office events.
- Lan
- Me too. I'd have expected families. For our presentation, I think the most important lesson is to know your customers.
- Ben
- I'd say it's more about trying new ideas quickly – but let's mention both. You do the background, and I'll present the lessons?
- Lan
- Sounds good. And we'll write the conclusion together.

A lecturer is talking about how honeybees share information
Nghe tối đa 2 lần trước khi xem lời thoại.
📄 Xem lời thoại (sau khi làm bài)
- Lecturer
- Today I'll describe how honeybees tell each other where to find food. When a worker bee finds a good source of flowers, she returns to the hive and performs a kind of dance.
- Lecturer
- This movement is often called the waggle dance, because the bee shakes her body from side to side while moving in a straight line.
- Lecturer
- The direction of that straight line tells the other bees which way to fly, using the position of the sun as a reference point.
- Lecturer
- The length of the waggle part gives information about distance: in general, the longer it lasts, the further away the food is.
- Lecturer
- The other bees also smell the flowers on the dancer's body, which helps them recognise the right plants when they arrive.

📖 Phần 2 – Reading (40 phút)
Passage 1 – Câu 21–30 (khoảng 18 phút)
The return of the repair shop
(Bài đọc tự viết; thị trấn, nhân vật và số liệu là giả định.)
A Twenty years ago, Tom Becker’s small electronics repair shop in the town of Ashby was close to closing. Customers rarely brought in broken radios or televisions any more; it was usually cheaper to buy a new one. “I spent most days waiting for the phone to ring,” he remembers.
B Today the shop is busy again. Tom now repairs phones, laptops and coffee machines, and he has taken on two young apprentices. He believes several changes explain the revival. Many devices are now expensive enough that repairing them makes financial sense, and customers increasingly worry about the environmental cost of throwing things away.
C Online videos have also played a part. Some customers now attempt simple repairs themselves and come to Tom only when they get stuck. Rather than seeing this as competition, Tom welcomes it. “People who’ve tried to fix something understand how much work it takes,” he says, “so they’re happier to pay for a professional job.”
D There are still obstacles. Some manufacturers make spare parts difficult to obtain, and certain products are glued together so tightly that opening them without damage is almost impossible. Tom also finds it hard to recruit skilled staff, which is why he decided to train apprentices himself.
E The town council has started to support repair businesses by listing them on its website and organising a monthly repair fair. Tom is cautiously optimistic about the future, but he admits that his business would struggle if new devices became much cheaper again.

Learning a language later in life
(Bài đọc tự viết; nhà nghiên cứu, chương trình và nhân vật là giả định.)
A It is often said that children learn languages more easily than adults. While young children may develop a more natural accent, many adults are surprisingly successful language learners. In some ways, they even have advantages over children.
B Linguist Dr Maya Klein points out that adults can draw on knowledge that children do not yet have. “An adult already understands how grammar works in their own language,” she explains, “so they can compare structures and learn rules more quickly.” Adults are also usually better at organising their study and setting clear goals.
C However, adults face practical difficulties. Work and family responsibilities leave little time for study, and many adults feel embarrassed about making mistakes in front of others. According to teacher trainer Paul Osei, this fear is one of the main reasons adults give up. “Children don’t mind sounding silly,” he says. “Adults often stop speaking until they feel perfect – which never happens.”
D Motivation also changes with age. Children in school often learn because they have to, whereas adults usually choose to learn for a specific purpose, such as a new job, travel or moving abroad. Klein believes this clear purpose can be a powerful driving force, as long as learners see regular progress.
E So how can adults learn most effectively? Osei recommends short, frequent practice rather than long sessions once a week, and encourages learners to use the language in real situations as early as possible, even if their English, for example, is far from perfect. Klein adds that reviewing vocabulary at increasing intervals helps learners remember words for longer.
✅ Câu 31–35: Choose the correct heading for each paragraph (A–E).
31. Paragraph A
32. Paragraph B
33. Paragraph C
34. Paragraph D
35. Paragraph E
✅ Câu 36–40: Match each statement with the correct person. (A = Maya Klein · B = Paul Osei)
36. Fear of making mistakes causes many adults to quit.
37. Knowledge of one's first language can speed up learning grammar.
38. Learners should use the language in real life from an early stage.
39. A clear purpose motivates learners if they can see progress.
40. Reviewing words at longer and longer gaps improves memory.
