Mục đích: ghi lại điểm xuất phát để so sánh ở buổi 105. Kết quả mỗi người khác nhau.
🎧 2. Listening – 10 phút (nghe một lần)

Two researchers, Dr Lee and Sam, are discussing the results of a study on remote working

- Sam
- So, the survey results are in. Two hundred employees from five companies replied.
- Dr Lee
- Good. What stands out?
- Sam
- Well, I'd assumed productivity would be the main benefit people mentioned, but in fact most respondents talked about saving time on commuting.
- Dr Lee
- Interesting. And productivity?
- Sam
- People felt it had improved slightly, but we only have their opinions, not objective measures. We should be careful about that.
- Dr Lee
- Agreed – it's a limitation we must mention. What about the drawbacks?
- Sam
- Loneliness came up a lot, especially among younger staff. Older employees were more worried about not being considered for promotion.
- Dr Lee
- That's a useful contrast. For the next stage, I think we should interview managers as well, rather than just sending another questionnaire.
- Sam
- I was going to suggest a second survey, but interviews would give us more depth. Let's do that.

The myth of the ‘morning person’
A Popular advice often suggests that successful people get up early. Countless articles describe executives who start work at five in the morning, implying that anyone could achieve more simply by setting an earlier alarm. Sleep researchers, however, are increasingly sceptical of this message.
B One reason is that people appear to differ in their natural sleep patterns. Some feel most alert in the morning, while others perform better later in the day. According to sleep scientist Dr Hannah Cole, forcing a natural ‘evening person’ to wake very early may reduce the total amount of sleep they get, rather than increasing their productive time.
C Cole also argues that the success of early risers may have less to do with the hour itself than with what they do with it. Many describe using the first hour for planning or exercise before they are interrupted by emails and meetings. “The key ingredient may be uninterrupted time,” she says, “and that can be found at any hour.”
D Not everyone agrees. Some employers point out that most workplaces and schools still begin early, so people who are naturally alert in the morning may simply fit the system better. Changing this, they say, would be impractical for most organisations.
✅ Câu 8–11: YES, NO hoặc NOT GIVEN – Do the statements agree with the views of Dr Cole?
8. Waking up very early can reduce some people's total sleep.
9. The time of day is the main reason early risers are successful.
