The line graph compares how many minutes a day adults in Country E devoted to reading books, taking online courses and exercising between 2010 and 2025.
Overall, the time spent on online courses increased dramatically, and this activity overtook reading to become the most time-consuming of the three by the end of the period. Reading, by contrast, declined steadily, while exercise time rose only slightly.
In 2010, adults spent an average of just 3 minutes a day on online courses. This figure climbed steadily to 18 minutes in 2019 before rising sharply to 30 minutes in 2022, and it reached 34 minutes in 2025 – a more than tenfold increase. During the same period, reading time fell consistently, from 32 minutes to 21 minutes, so online learning surpassed reading in 2022.
Exercise followed a different pattern. The time devoted to it remained relatively stable at between 20 and 23 minutes until 2019, after which it rose to 26 minutes in 2022 and 27 minutes in 2025, only marginally higher than three years earlier.
