The bar chart compares the rate of road accidents per 100,000 people in five countries in 2015 and 2025.

Overall, accident rates fell in four of the five countries, with the most dramatic improvements in Alvia and Corlo. Elmar was the only exception, its rate rising to become the highest in 2025, while Dessa had the lowest rate in both years.

In 2015, Alvia recorded by far the highest rate, at 320 accidents per 100,000 people, followed by Corlo at 240. Over the following decade, both figures halved, falling to 160 and 120 respectively. These were by far the largest declines among the five countries.

The remaining countries saw smaller changes. Bretan's rate fell only slightly, from 180 to 170, and Dessa's dropped from 90 to 80, leaving it well below the others. Elmar, by contrast, moved in the opposite direction: its rate increased from 150 to 210, which meant that by 2025 it had overtaken Alvia and Bretan to record the most accidents of the five countries.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to report a dangerous situation at the pedestrian crossing outside Sunrise Primary School on Le Van Sy Street.

Since the road was widened in September, the traffic lights at this crossing have not been working, and no temporary signals have been installed. As a result, children and parents have to cross four lanes of fast-moving traffic with no protection. On Monday morning at about 7.15, I witnessed a near miss in which a motorbike only just managed to stop in front of a group of young pupils.

This poses a serious risk to everyone using the crossing, particularly the hundreds of children who arrive and leave at the same times each day. Drivers often do not realise that there is a school nearby, as the warning sign is partly hidden by a tree.

I would urge the council to repair the traffic lights as a matter of urgency and, in the meantime, to provide a crossing guard during school hours. Trimming the tree so that the sign is clearly visible would also help.

I would be grateful if you could confirm what action will be taken.

She did not need hospital treatment; first aid was given by the floor first-aider. Cause: Leaking pipe under the sink; no warning sign. Action taken: Area dried and sign placed; maintenance informed. Recommendation: Repair the pipe and check other kitchens.
