The diagram illustrates the life cycle of the silkworm, the insect from which silk is produced.

Overall, the life cycle consists of six main stages, beginning with eggs laid by a female moth and ending with the emergence of a new adult moth, which in turn lays eggs to restart the cycle. It is during the larval stage that the silk thread is produced.

The cycle starts when a female moth lays eggs. These eggs hatch into tiny larvae, commonly known as silkworms. During this stage, the larvae feed on mulberry leaves and grow rapidly, shedding their skin several times as they increase in size.

Once fully grown, each larva spins a cocoon around itself using a single long silk thread, which is the material used to make silk. Inside the cocoon, the larva develops into a pupa. Finally, an adult moth emerges from the cocoon and lays eggs, at which point the cycle begins again.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing regarding a series of problems with recent deliveries to my café, Little Leaf, on Tran Hung Dao Street, which has been your customer for over two years.

On three occasions in the past month, our orders have not met the agreed standard. Firstly, the delivery on 2 November arrived two hours late, after our breakfast service had already begun. Secondly, on 9 November, we received five kilograms of tomatoes instead of the ten we had ordered. Most recently, a box of strawberries delivered on 16 November was partly mouldy and had to be thrown away.

As a result, we were forced to buy replacement produce from a local market at a higher price, and on one morning we had to remove two popular dishes from the menu.

I would ask that you credit our account for the missing and damaged items and confirm what steps you will take to ensure deliveries arrive on time. I value our business relationship and hope we can resolve this promptly. However, unless the situation improves by the end of the month, we will have no choice but to look for another supplier.

Hi Mr Long,

To confirm our order for Friday 27 November: 10 kg tomatoes, 5 kg lettuce and 3 boxes of strawberries. Please deliver before 6.30 a.m., as we open at 7. Could you also check the strawberries before loading?
