- Buổi 57: “not without difficulties” – nói 1 câu về sống chung nhiều thế hệ.
- Nói 1 câu với “whereas” về ông bà và bố mẹ bạn.

🗣️ 2. Đầu vào – 20 phút
Q: Do you often see your relatives? My immediate family, yes – almost every weekend. Whereas with my extended family, it’s more of a once-or-twice-a-year thing, mostly at Lunar New Year and death anniversaries. That said, we have a family group chat that’s surprisingly active, so I probably know more about my cousins’ lives than I’d like to.
Q: Is it better to be young or old? I don’t think one is simply better. While being young gives you energy and options, in my experience older people often seem far more at ease with themselves – they’ve stopped worrying about what everyone thinks. If I could combine the two, I’d take the energy of a twenty-year-old and the confidence of a seventy-year-old.

Whereas with my extended family, it's more of a once-or-twice-a-year thing.
I probably know more about my cousins' lives than I'd like to.
Older people often seem far more at ease with themselves.
I'd take the energy of a twenty-year-old and the confidence of a seventy-year-old.

Describe an older person you respect.
You should say:
- who this person is
- how you know him or her
- what this person has done
- and explain why you respect him or her.
- Tính từ “band 7”: resilient, down-to-earth, sharp, generous with their time.
👀 Bài nói mẫu Part 2 (đọc sau khi đã tự nói)
Bài mẫu do khóa học viết; nhân vật và câu chuyện là giả định.
The person I’d like to talk about is a neighbour of my parents’, an elderly man everyone in the street calls Uncle Bao. He must be in his early eighties now, and I’ve known him since I was a child.
He used to be a primary school maths teacher, and even after he retired he never really stopped teaching. When I was about twelve and struggling badly with fractions, my mother mentioned it to him in passing. The next afternoon, he knocked on our door with a bag of oranges and a pack of cards, and spent an hour showing me how to divide up the oranges and score the card games using fractions. He refused to take any money, and he came back every Saturday for the rest of that term.
What I respect most, though, isn’t just his generosity with his time. It’s how he’s dealt with getting older. A few years ago he lost most of the hearing in one ear, which would have made a lot of people withdraw. Instead, he learned to use a hearing aid, joked about it constantly, and started a small chess club for retired people at the local community centre, partly, he said, so that he’d have to keep listening.
I think he’s the most resilient person I know, but also one of the most down-to-earth. He never talks about what he’s done for people; you only find out from them.
He’s influenced me in quite a practical way. Whenever I’m explaining something at work and I can see someone isn’t following, I think of the oranges – and I try to find a more concrete way of showing it.
🔬 Phân tích bài mẫu
- Show, don’t tell: túi cam và bộ bài → người nghe tự thấy sự tận tâm, không cần nói He is kind.
- Chuyển trọng tâm: What I respect most, though, isn’t just… It’s…
- Tương phản tự nhiên: which would have made a lot of people withdraw. Instead, …
- Kết nối với hiện tại: I think of the oranges – hình ảnh lặp lại tạo điểm kết đẹp.
⚠️ Lỗi hay gặp ở band 6.5: liệt kê tính từ (kind, friendly, hard-working, helpful) không có ví dụ; chọn ông bà rồi nói chung chung he loves me very much.
Part 3 – xã hội già hóa
🎤 Part 3 – Ageing societies (khoảng 8 phút)
Nghe câu hỏi → nghĩ 10–15 giây → ghi âm câu trả lời 2–3 câu (khoảng 20–30 giây) → nghe lại và tự chấm bằng ô kiểm tra bên dưới.
- Tương phản trang trọng: Whereas in the past…, nowadays…
- Nhượng bộ: Families still play a central role, albeit a changing one.
Should families or governments be mainly responsible for caring for older people?
What can younger people learn from older people?
How will an ageing population affect your country in the future?
Should older people be encouraged to keep working?

| Điều chỉnh ý trước | That said, … · Having said that, … |
| Nhượng bộ có giới hạn | …, albeit a… one. |
| Phản ứng ngược kỳ vọng | …, which would have made most people… Instead, … |
| Chuyển trọng tâm | What I respect most isn’t just… It’s… |
