- Ranger
- Good morning, and welcome to Ashford Valley. Fifteen years ago, this was mostly intensive farmland. Since then, the aim has been to restore natural habitats and let the land largely manage itself, which is what we mean by rewilding.
- Ranger
- We're at the visitor centre, at the southern edge of the reserve. North is straight ahead of you, towards the river. If you go out of the west door and follow the path for about five minutes, you'll come to the children's nature trail. It's on the near side of the river, so you don't need to cross the bridge.
- Ranger
- The bridge itself is directly north of the visitor centre – you can't miss it. Just before the bridge, on the riverbank, there's a picnic area, but please don't feed the birds there.
- Ranger
- Once you've crossed the bridge, the path forks. The left fork takes you into the old woodland. The bird hide is inside the woodland, close to its eastern edge – it's a wooden shelter where you can watch without disturbing the wildlife. The right fork takes you past the wetland, and on the far side of the wetland, in the north-east corner, is the wildflower meadow.
- Ranger
- Back on our side, to the east of the visitor centre, next to the car park, is the volunteer base, where you can sign up for our weekend surveys.
- Ranger
- Now, a few words about what makes each area special. The wetland was the first part we restored, and it's now the only place in the reserve where you'll see otters, though you'll need to be patient – early mornings are best. The meadow isn't grazed in summer, so the flowers can set seed, but from October a small herd of cattle is brought in to graze it, which stops scrub from taking over.
- Ranger
- In the woodland, we've deliberately left fallen trees where they are. That might look untidy, but dead wood is an important habitat for insects and fungi. The children's trail has been designed with a boardwalk, so it's accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs all year. And the picnic area, as I mentioned, is where we ask you not to feed the birds, because bread is actually harmful to them.

🧩 3. Ngôn ngữ trọng tâm – 10 phút: collocation môi trường chính xác
| Động từ | Danh từ đi kèm | Không nói |
|---|---|---|
| restore | habitats / wetlands / a river | |

👉 Collocation chính xác là một trong những khác biệt rõ nhất giữa band 6.5 và 7+ ở Lexical Resource – học cả cụm, không học từ đơn.
🎧 4. Thực hành – 20 phút
- Nghe lại, mở lời thoại: vẽ lộ trình bằng bút; khoanh mọi từ chỉ hướng (8 phút).
- Mô tả bản đồ 1 phút như kiểm lâm, dùng ít nhất 4 collocation trong bảng (6 phút).
- Sổ cụm từ band 7: let the land largely manage itself, you can’t miss it, that might look untidy, but… (6 phút).

Let me take you through what we found on this morning's walk-round.
Để tôi trình bày những gì chúng tôi phát hiện trong buổi đi kiểm tra sáng nay.
Just beyond the loading bay, two fire extinguishers were blocked by pallets.
Ngay sau khu bốc xếp, hai bình chữa cháy bị pallet che chắn.
On the far side of the warehouse, the emergency lighting was working well.
Ở phía bên kia nhà kho, đèn khẩn cấp hoạt động tốt.
That might look like a small issue, but it could delay an evacuation.
Có vẻ là vấn đề nhỏ, nhưng nó có thể làm chậm việc sơ tán.
We'd recommend clearing the area today and adding it to the weekly checklist.
Chúng tôi khuyến nghị dọn khu vực trong hôm nay và thêm vào danh sách kiểm tra hằng tuần.
