Two marketing students, Hana and Tom, discuss a campaign for a fictional reusable water bottle brand, 'Rivo', with their tutor (giả định)

Tutor
So, you've both looked at the Rivo campaign. Let's start with the target audience. Who do you think it was aimed at?
Hana
Mainly university students and young office workers. The adverts are full of people cycling to lectures and drinking from the bottle at their desks.
Tom
I'd go along with that, although I think they were also trying to reach parents. A couple of the online adverts show the bottle in a school bag.
Tutor
Good point. And the slogan – 'One bottle. A thousand fewer.' What did you make of it?
Tom
I thought it really hit the mark. It's short, it's memorable, and it makes you feel that buying the product is doing something positive.
Hana
I take your point, but isn't it a bit vague? A thousand fewer what? Plastic bottles, presumably, but over what period? If someone checks and the figure can't be backed up, it could backfire.
Tutor
That's an important issue. Claims about environmental benefits are increasingly scrutinised. Did the campaign explain the figure anywhere?
Hana
Only in very small print on the website, and it was based on someone using the bottle every day for three years. Which is possible, but hardly typical.
Tom
OK, I'd agree it's a bit of a stretch. But in terms of brand awareness, it clearly worked – people were sharing the adverts all over social media.
Tutor
And was that sharing entirely positive?
Tom
Not entirely. Social media's a double-edged sword. Quite a few people posted comments saying the bottles leak if you put them on their side.
Hana
Which I think matters more than the slogan, actually. Word of mouth about the product itself tends to outlast any advertising.
Tutor
So for your report, what would you say was the campaign's main weakness?
Tom
I'd still say the leaking problem. No amount of clever advertising can make up for a product that doesn't work properly.
Hana
I'd see it slightly differently. I'd say the main weakness was the unclear environmental claim, because that damages trust in the whole brand, not just one product.
Tutor
Both are defensible. Why don't you present them as two linked problems – one about the product, one about credibility – and argue which is more serious?

🧩 3. Ngôn ngữ trọng tâm – 10 phút: thành ngữ dùng đúng chỗ

Thành ngữ Nghĩa Dùng trong Speaking?
hit the mark đạt mục tiêu, thành công ✅ Part 3 khi đánh giá
miss the point hiểu sai trọng tâm ✅ phản biện lịch sự
a double-edged sword vừa lợi vừa hại ✅ – nhưng chỉ một lần, đừng lạm dụng
a bit of a stretch hơi cường điệu, khó tin ✅
make up for bù đắp ✅
raining cats and dogs mưa to ⚠️ cũ, nghe gượng – tránh

Thành ngữ cũ/kịch tính (once in a blue moon, over the moon) thường làm câu trả lời kém tự nhiên nếu chèn gượng ép.

🎧 4. Thực hành – 20 phút

  1. Nghe lại, mở lời thoại: đánh dấu ✔ (đồng ý), ½ (đồng ý một phần), ✘ (phản đối) cạnh mỗi lượt lời (8 phút).
  3. Sổ cụm từ band 7: I’d go along with that, What did you make of it?, no amount of… can make up for… (6 phút).

  2. In our pilot, most users saved around an hour a week – but that was a small group.

  3. It isn't designed for very large sites, so it may not suit everyone.

  4. I'd rather be clear about the limits now than disappoint you later.
