The line graph illustrates how the proportion of electricity generated from five sources in Country E changed over the twenty years from 2006 to 2026.

Overall, there was a clear shift in the country's energy mix away from coal and towards solar and wind power. Although coal remained one of the two largest sources, it lost its dominant position, and by the end of the period solar and wind generated just as large a share.

In 2006, coal was by far the most important source, accounting for 55% of electricity generation, while solar and wind contributed a mere 2%. Over the following two decades, the share of coal fell steadily to 30%, a decline of almost half. Solar and wind, by contrast, grew slowly at first but rose sharply after 2011, reaching 30% in 2026 – fifteen times its original share and on a par with coal.

The other sources changed considerably less. Gas rose from 20% to a peak of 26% in 2016 before falling back to 22%. Hydropower declined marginally, from 18% to 14%, while other sources remained at around 4–5% throughout.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I saw your advertisement in last week's local newspaper and am writing to enquire about installing solar panels on my home.

The house is a three-storey townhouse with a flat concrete roof of roughly 40 square metres. Part of the roof is occupied by a water tank, and a neighbouring building shades one corner in the late afternoon. Our electricity use is highest in the evenings, when the family is at home.

I have a few questions about the installation itself. First, would the shading and the water tank significantly reduce the amount of electricity the panels could produce? Secondly, given that we use most electricity in the evening, would you recommend battery storage, or would it be considerably more expensive than it is worth for a household like ours?

I would also be grateful for information about costs, including whether you offer payment in instalments, and what warranty is provided on the panels and the installation work. Finally, how long would the installation take, and would we need to be at home throughout?

Would it be possible for someone to visit and provide a quotation? I am usually available on weekday evenings.
