  2. Kể họ từ của “polite”: politeness, impolite, …
  3. “courteous” và “considerate” khác nhau thế nào?

Trả lời to hoặc viết ra giấy, rồi mới mở lại buổi trước để kiểm tra.

🗣️ 2. Đầu vào – 20 phút

Q: Is politeness important in your culture? Very much so, although it shows itself differently from what foreigners might expect. A lot of it is about how you address people – we use different words for “you” depending on someone’s age and relationship to you, so getting that wrong can sound rude even if you didn’t mean it. On the other hand, we’re probably less formal than some cultures about things like queuing.

Q: How many languages can you speak? Two – Vietnamese, which is my mother tongue, and English, which I’d describe as fairly fluent for work but still a work in progress in casual conversation. I picked up a few phrases of Korean from a colleague, but I wouldn’t go as far as saying I speak it.

  1. Although it shows itself differently from what foreigners might expect.

Dù nó thể hiện khác với điều người nước ngoài có thể nghĩ.

  2. Getting that wrong can sound rude even if you didn't mean it.

Nói sai điều đó có thể nghe thô lỗ dù bạn không cố ý.

  3. Fairly fluent for work but still a work in progress in casual conversation.

Khá trôi chảy trong công việc nhưng vẫn đang tiến bộ khi trò chuyện thường ngày.

  4. I wouldn't go as far as saying I speak it.

Tôi không dám nói là mình nói được.

Part 2 – Câu nói là gì (ngôn ngữ gốc + dịch) → Bạn biết nó từ đâu / ai → Nghĩa đen & nghĩa bóng → Một lần nó giúp bạn → Bạn có còn đồng ý hoàn toàn không

👉 Với câu tục ngữ tiếng Việt: nói nguyên văn ngắn gọn rồi dịch – giám khảo chấm cách bạn giải thích, không phải câu tiếng Việt. Thêm một giới hạn (I don’t take it literally…) cho chiều sâu.

🗂️ Part 2 – Thẻ đề

Describe a saying or proverb that is meaningful to you.

You should say:

  • what the saying is
  • where you first heard it
  • what it means
  • and explain why it is meaningful to you.

  • Dịch nghĩa đen rồi nghĩa bóng: Literally, it means… but the idea is…
  • Giới hạn: I don't think it's always true, though…
👀 Bài nói mẫu Part 2 (đọc sau khi đã tự nói)

Bài mẫu do khóa học viết; tục ngữ dân gian, bản dịch của khóa học, câu chuyện giả định.

The saying I’d like to talk about is a Vietnamese proverb: “Có công mài sắt, có ngày nên kim.” Literally, it means something like “if you keep grinding a piece of iron, one day it will become a needle.”

I first heard it from my grandfather, who used to say it whenever I complained that homework was too hard. As a child, I found it quite annoying, to be honest – it seemed like the kind of thing adults say when they don’t want to help.

The idea behind it is perseverance: that slow, patient effort can achieve something that seems impossible at first. A needle is tiny and delicate, while a bar of iron is huge and rough, so the image makes the point very vividly.

It only really became meaningful to me when I started studying for a professional qualification while working full-time. There were months when I felt I wasn’t making any progress at all, and I seriously considered giving up. What kept me going was remembering that image – not a sudden transformation, but tiny amounts of metal coming off every day. In the end, I passed, not because I was particularly talented, but because I simply didn’t stop.

That said, I don’t take it completely literally. Effort matters, but so does working intelligently – grinding iron with the wrong tool would take forever. So these days I’d say the proverb is half the story: keep going, but keep checking that you’re going in the right direction.

🔬 Phân tích bài mẫu
  • Giới thiệu – dịch – giải thích gọn: Literally, it means… The idea behind it is…
  • Phản ứng ban đầu thật (quite annoying) → ý nghĩa đến sau (It only really became meaningful when…).
  • Hình ảnh được khai thác: not a sudden transformation, but tiny amounts of metal coming off every day.
  • Giới hạn thông minh: I don’t take it completely literally… half the story – chiều sâu band 7+.
  • Từ vựng chính xác: perseverance, vividly, a professional qualification, keep going.

⚠️ Lỗi hay gặp ở band 6.5: đọc câu tục ngữ rồi chỉ nói it means we should try hard; không có câu chuyện; dịch từng chữ gây khó hiểu.
