The bar chart compares the proportion of men and women in Country S who took part in six different physical activities at least once a week in 2026.
Overall, men had higher participation rates in four of the six activities, but the size of the gender gap varied considerably. The largest differences were in football, which was dominated by men, and yoga, which was far more popular among women. Running was the most common activity for both genders.
Running attracted 22% of men and 18% of women, a gap of just four percentage points. Men were also slightly more likely than women to use a gym (20% compared with 17%) and to cycle (10% and 7% respectively). Football, however, showed a much sharper contrast: 18% of men played regularly, six times the proportion of women.
By contrast, women's participation exceeded men's in swimming, at 16% against 12%, and especially in yoga. Only 2% of men practised yoga weekly, whereas 14% of women did so, a rate seven times higher.

Dear Ms Vu,
I have been a full member of Parkside Leisure Centre for three years, and I am writing to express my concern about the condition of several facilities.
Since the beginning of November, two of the four showers in the women's changing room have been out of order, and the remaining two frequently run cold. In addition, the floor near the pool entrance is often wet and slippery, as one of the drains appears to be blocked. Last week, I saw an elderly member lose her balance there, although fortunately she was not hurt.
As a result, members often have to queue for a long time after swimming, and many of us feel that the changing area has become unhygienic and potentially unsafe. Given that the monthly membership fee was increased in September, these problems are particularly disappointing.
I raised the issue with reception staff on 12 November, but nothing appears to have changed. I would therefore ask that the showers and drain be repaired as a matter of urgency, and that a warning sign be placed near the pool entrance in the meantime.
I look forward to hearing what action will be taken.
