- Buổi 137: “integration is a two-way process” – giải thích bằng 1 câu.
- Tránh khái quát văn hóa thế nào khi nói?
- “homesick” và “culture shock” khác nhau thế nào?
Trả lời to hoặc viết ra giấy, rồi mới mở lại buổi trước để kiểm tra.
🗣️ 2. Đầu vào – 20 phút
Q: What do you like most about your home? Probably the light. It’s not a big place, but the living room gets the sun in the morning, and that’s where I have my coffee before work. It sounds like a small thing, but it sets the tone for the whole day.
Q: Would you like to live abroad? I think so, at least for a few years. What appeals to me is the challenge of having to adapt – new routines, new ways of doing things. That said, I imagine the hardest part would be being far from family, especially at times like Lunar New Year.

Nghe nhỏ nhặt, nhưng nó định nhịp cho cả ngày.

Điều hấp dẫn tôi là thử thách phải thích nghi.
The hardest part would be being far from family.

Part 2 – Người đó là ai, từ đâu → Bạn quen thế nào → Một khác biệt văn hóa cụ thể bạn nhận thấy → Điểm chung bất ngờ → Bạn học được gì
👉 Tránh khuôn mẫu (All Germans are…): nói về người cụ thể và dùng in her experience, in his family, as she explained it to me.
🗂️ Part 2 – Thẻ đề
Describe a person you know who comes from a different culture.
You should say:
- who this person is
- how you met him or her
- what differences you have noticed between your cultures
- and explain what you have learned from this person.
- Tránh khái quát: As she explained it, in her family… rather than “people from her country always…”.
- Điểm chung bất ngờ làm câu chuyện ấm áp hơn.
👀 Bài nói mẫu Part 2 (đọc sau khi đã tự nói)
Bài mẫu do khóa học viết; nhân vật và câu chuyện là giả định.
The person I’d like to talk about is a former colleague called Ingrid, who grew up in a small town in northern Europe and worked in our office for about two years.
We met when she joined our team on a project. At first, I found her quite difficult to read. In meetings, she would say very directly when she disagreed with something – “I don’t think that will work” – which, in our office, would normally be softened a lot more. I remember feeling slightly embarrassed for the person she was talking to.
It was only after a few weeks that I realised she didn’t mean it as criticism of the person at all. As she explained it to me over lunch one day, in the workplaces she was used to, being direct was a sign of respect – you were treating someone as a professional who could handle an honest opinion. She was equally surprised that people in our team would agree in the meeting and then raise concerns privately afterwards. For her, that felt much less honest.
What surprised us both was how much we had in common outside work. We were both obsessed with cooking, and we started swapping recipes – I taught her how to make spring rolls, and she taught me a kind of rye bread that I’ve never managed to make properly since.
I think what I learned from her is that the same behaviour can mean completely different things depending on where you’re from. Now, when someone’s style seems strange to me, I try to ask myself what it might mean in their context before I judge it.
🔬 Phân tích bài mẫu
- Khác biệt cụ thể, không khuôn mẫu: cách nói thẳng trong họp – trình bày qua lời giải thích của chính cô ấy (As she explained it to me…).
- Hai chiều: cô ấy cũng ngạc nhiên về cách làm việc của nhóm – cân bằng, tôn trọng.
- Điểm chung bất ngờ: nấu ăn, đổi công thức – chi tiết ấm áp, hài hước (never managed to make properly).
- Bài học khái quát tinh tế: the same behaviour can mean completely different things.
- Thì quá khứ phong phú: would say, was used to, had in common, I’ve never managed.
- Ngôn ngữ tôn trọng, tránh khái quát: many newcomers, in some communities, it depends on…
- Hai chiều: newcomers… and host communities…
What are the main challenges people face when they move to another country?
How can communities help newcomers feel welcome?
Is it important for people living abroad to keep their own traditions?
Do you think the world is becoming more or less culturally diverse?
