👀 Bài nói mẫu Part 2 (đọc sau khi đã tự nói hai lần)
Bài mẫu do khóa học viết; nhân vật và tình huống là giả định.
The advice I’d like to talk about came from an old colleague, a woman who’d been in the same department for about twenty years when I joined. In my first month, I was trying very hard to impress everyone, and I said yes to every request. She took me aside one afternoon and said, quite simply: “Don’t promise what you can’t deliver – people remember the missed deadline, not the enthusiastic yes.”
At the time I nodded and didn’t really take it in. The turning point came a few weeks later, when I’d agreed to three urgent tasks for three different managers in the same week and ended up delivering all of them late. Nobody was angry exactly, but I could see I’d lost a bit of their trust, which was far worse.
So I started following her advice in a very practical way. Before agreeing to anything, I’d check what else I’d committed to and give a realistic date, even if it wasn’t the one people wanted to hear.
It felt uncomfortable at first – a bit like being difficult. But within a couple of months, people seemed to trust my estimates more, and, if anything, I was given more interesting work. Looking back, I think the advice wasn’t really about time management at all. It was about the difference between wanting to be liked and wanting to be relied on.
