The diagram illustrates the journey of checked luggage from the moment it is handed in at an airport until it is collected by its owner at the destination.
Overall, there are eight stages in the process, beginning with check-in and ending when passengers collect their bags at the arrival airport.
First, each bag is weighed and labelled at the check-in desk. Next, it is carried on a conveyor belt to the baggage area, where it is checked by an X-ray machine for security reasons. Once the bags have been scanned, they are sorted according to their flight.
After that, the luggage for each flight is loaded into large containers, which are then transferred onto the plane. When the plane arrives at its destination, the containers are unloaded and the bags are sent to the baggage reclaim area. At the final stage of the process, the bags are collected by the passengers.
