These days, AI tools that can answer questions, explain lessons and mark exercises are becoming common, and some people think they will soon take the place of teachers. I partly agree that AI will change the way students learn, but I do not believe it will replace teachers completely.
On the one hand, AI can already do some tasks that teachers traditionally do. For example, an AI tutor can explain a grammar rule or a maths problem in several different ways until a student understands, and it is available at any time of day. It can also mark simple exercises and give instant feedback, which saves teachers time. In addition, AI tools can let each student learn at their own pace, so stronger learners can move ahead while others receive extra practice.
On the other hand, a teacher's role is much wider than explaining information. Good teachers notice when a student is worried or losing interest, and they know how to encourage them. They also teach children how to work in groups, listen to others and solve disagreements, which are skills that a machine cannot easily teach. Furthermore, without guidance, some students may rely too much on AI or use it to copy answers instead of thinking for themselves. Teachers are needed to show them how to use these tools responsibly and to check that real learning is taking place.
In conclusion, although AI tools can take over certain tasks and support learning in useful ways, I believe that teachers will remain essential, because education is about motivation, relationships and values as well as knowledge.
