The maps illustrate how the town of Westbrook developed over a 35-year period, from 1990 to 2025.
Overall, Westbrook changed from a largely rural area into a much more urban town, with all of its farmland disappearing. However, the main road and the original houses in the south-west remained unchanged throughout the period.
In 1990, most of the land on both sides of the main road was used for farming, apart from a forest in the north-east, a small group of houses and a factory. By 2005, the situation had changed considerably. The farmland to the north of the road had been replaced by a large housing estate, while the fields in the south-east had made way for a shopping centre.
Between 2005 and 2025, further development took place. The factory was converted into apartments, and the western part of the forest was cleared to build a school, leaving a much smaller area of woodland. In addition, a train station was constructed on the main road.
