In many countries, people now pay for almost everything using cards or mobile phones, and some believe that cash will soon disappear completely. Others argue that cash should always remain an option. In my opinion, electronic payments should become the norm, but cash should still be available as a back-up.
Those who support a cashless society point to its convenience and transparency. Paying by phone tends to be faster than counting notes and coins, and people do not need to visit a bank or carry large amounts of money. In addition, digital transactions are traceable, which may make it harder for people to avoid paying tax or to hide illegal activities. For businesses, electronic payments can also reduce the risk of theft and the time spent handling cash.
However, there are good reasons to keep cash in circulation. Firstly, some groups, such as older people or those living in remote areas, may not have a smartphone or a bank account, and a cashless system could exclude them from basic services. Secondly, electronic systems are not completely reliable. A power cut, a network failure or a cyber attack can make card payments impossible, and in such situations cash is the only way to buy essential items. Moreover, some people prefer cash because it helps them to control their spending and protects their privacy.
In conclusion, although digital payments bring clear benefits and are likely to become even more common, I believe it would be a mistake to abolish cash entirely. Keeping it available as a back-up would protect vulnerable groups and ensure that people can still pay when technology fails.

Hi Anna! Quick tip about paying here: most shops, cafés and taxis accept cards or QR code payments, but small street stalls and markets usually only take cash. I'd suggest keeping some small notes with you. There are ATMs in most shopping centres. Also, always check the amount on the screen before you confirm a payment. See you tomorrow!
