The maps illustrate how the Eastport waterfront changed over three stages between 1980 and 2025.

Overall, the area was transformed from an industrial zone into a residential and cultural district, with the changes taking place in two main phases. The river remained a central feature throughout, although its use changed from commercial to recreational.

In 1980, the waterfront was dominated by industry, with warehouses, a factory and a rail yard lining Harbour Road, and cargo docks along the river. By 2000, the warehouses had been converted into apartments and the factory had closed. The rail yard gave way to a car park, while the cargo docks were replaced by a marina.

The second phase brought further changes. The disused factory was redeveloped as an arts centre, and the car park was removed to make way for a small park and a tram stop. Most noticeably, Harbour Road was pedestrianised and became Harbour Walk, a route for pedestrians and cyclists along the river.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to give my feedback on the new community centre on Hoa Binh Street, which I have visited several times since it opened last month.

Overall, I am very impressed with the building. The large windows make the main hall bright and welcoming, and the rooftop garden has quickly become a popular place for older residents to meet. The children's library is also well designed, with plenty of comfortable seating.

However, I would like to draw your attention to a problem with accessibility. Although there is a lift, the only ramp to the main entrance is at the back of the building, and it is not clearly signposted. Last week, I saw a wheelchair user and a parent with a pushchair struggling to find it, and they eventually had to ask staff for help.

I would suggest adding clear signage at the front entrance and, in the longer term, building a second ramp beside the main steps. These changes would make the centre genuinely accessible to everyone.

Hi Facilities team,

Thanks for the office redesign – the new open area feels much brighter, and the standing desks are really popular. One suggestion: the two phone booths are almost always full, so people end up taking calls at their desks, which is noisy for others. Would it be possible to add one or two more booths, or turn the small storage room into a quiet call room?
