The line graph compares the number of university students in Country U who studied full-time on campus, part-time on campus and fully online between 2010 and 2025, and includes projections up to 2035.

Overall, full-time campus study has remained by far the most common mode, although numbers have fallen slightly since 2015. Online study, by contrast, has grown dramatically and is expected to continue rising, while part-time campus study has declined steadily.

In 2010, there were 420,000 full-time students, a figure that peaked at 450,000 in 2015 before gradually dropping to 430,000 in 2025. According to the projections, it will fall further to 400,000 by 2035. Part-time campus numbers decreased consistently from 150,000 to 110,000 over the first fifteen years and are forecast to drop below 100,000 by the end of the period.

The most striking change concerns online study. Enrolment rose from just 20,000 in 2010 to 160,000 in 2025, overtaking part-time study in the process. It is projected to reach 270,000 in 2035, by which time it will have more than doubled compared with 2020.

I would like to study a part-time certificate in Accounting for Small Businesses at Westfield College, starting in February. I currently work as an office assistant at a family-run printing company, where I have gradually taken on responsibility for invoices and supplier payments. However, I have never received formal training, and I often find it difficult to prepare accurate financial reports.

I believe I am a suitable candidate because I have already shown commitment to learning: over the past year, I have completed two free online courses in spreadsheets in my own time. The certificate would enable me to manage the company's finances more professionally, which closely matches your organisation's aim of supporting local small businesses.

On completing the course, I also intend to run free evening sessions at the community centre to help other small shop owners keep simple accounts.
