- Good morning and welcome to the Old Citadel. Before we set off, I'll give you a quick overview of the five areas we'll visit.

- We start at the Main Gate. Many people think it's the oldest part of the citadel, but in fact it was rebuilt in the nineteenth century after a fire. What makes it worth seeing is the stone carving above the entrance.

- Next is the Royal Courtyard. There used to be several buildings here, but only a few foundations remain today. The highlight is the view – from the steps you can see the whole river valley.

- Then we come to the East Hall, which has been carefully restored. Few visitors realise that the painted ceiling is a replica; the original is kept in the museum to protect it from humidity.

- The fourth stop is the Library Tower. The majority of the books were moved long ago, so there's not much inside, but the tower contains the oldest inscription on the site, dating back over six hundred years.

- Finally, the Museum, where you'll find most of the artefacts discovered during excavations – coins, pottery and the original ceiling panels from the East Hall.

- A few practical points. Photography is allowed everywhere except inside the Museum. None of the buildings has a lift, I'm afraid, so the Library Tower may be difficult for some visitors. And the tour lasts about ninety minutes, not the two hours printed in some old leaflets.
