The table compares four aspects of smartphone use across four adult age groups in Country R in 2026.
Overall, adults aged 60 and over had the lowest figures for every measure. While smartphone ownership and screen time declined steadily with age, the use of banking apps and changes to privacy settings were most common not among the youngest adults but among those aged 30 to 44.
Ownership was near-universal among people under 45, at 98% for the youngest group and 96% for the next. It fell to 89% among those aged 45 to 59 and to 71% among the oldest adults. Daily screen time followed the same downward pattern, from 5.2 hours for 18- to 29-year-olds to 2.4 hours for the over-60s, less than half the former figure.
By contrast, adults aged 30 to 44 were the most likely to use a banking app (85%) and to have changed their privacy settings in the past year (52%), narrowly ahead of the youngest group on both measures. The over-60s lagged far behind, with fewer than half using banking apps and only around one in five adjusting their privacy settings.
